First of all, let me say how impressed I am by Dr. Dan Purser. He is a most generous man with his time in helping us understand a very difficult subject one that is so important. Our health, and primarily how our hormones affect our entire body. Being of the older generation we were given very little information. What the Doctor said we or let me say I did. Yes, I took synthetic hormones and now see how little it did for me. Why did I gain so much weight and was so tired? Nobody knew just Diet was the buzz word. What a revelation for me when I was introduced to Young Living and their wonderful products. I began to feel better and yet not until I saw Dan Purser speak did I know what I had been doing to my body. That night I threw away all my medications that he had said were so bad for us. Alot of what he said went over my head, because it was so new and astonishing. I didn' know a Doctor, such a fine one with honours, would sit and take time after his talk for everyone to come and speak with him. He takes the time to message me when I ask him questions and so I wanted to go further and read his books. He makes a dull subject come alive with his humour and yet very documented and well written on a subject we all need and ultimately want to learn about. I am taking his progessence plus and other supplements he recommends and hopefully my health will improve to the point where others will notice and ask what is different about me. I am ordering hiis pamphlets and cards to distribute when the time comes.

Girls/Women are you suffering? This book gives you all the information you need to ensure you are getting the best care possible for women of all ages. It tells you what the optimum ranges are for optimum health and how to get there. The book lists symptoms and solutions!! I am so impressed I am going to buy 3 more, one for my GYN, one for my GP & one for a spare to give as a Christmas present (will probably need more). Don't stay in the dark, you have a the right to know what is going on. Awesome help, Thank You So Much Dr. Purser, wish you were closer.

An Important, but Rambling, Political Bio

With a figure this inspirational and controversial, it's amazing that no authoritative biography appeared on Che Guevara until Anderson completed this one three decades after his death. Anderson has really delivered an impressive and strongly researched bio into this interesting character. We learn that Che had a comfortable middle-class upbringing in Argentina and even earned a medical degree, but ended up fighting for the world's downtrodden. He also had severe asthma but still managed to become a rugged jungle revolutionary. After traveling around Latin America he ended up in Cuba as Castro's right-hand man during the revolution. This episode in Che's career contributes to the main problem of this book however. More than half of the book is dedicated to the years just before and after Castro's seizure of power in 1959. Che certainly had a large part to play here, but his life story is lost in Anderson's coverage of Cuban events and politics during those years. Thus for a while the book is no longer a biography but a political history that is only somewhat related to the main subject. Apparently in his research on Che, Anderson unearthed so much information on the Cuban revolution that he wanted to use all of it, and accidentally wrote a second book on Cuban history and placed it in the middle of this one. This is still useful if you're interested in that topic, but as a result this book becomes far more rambling, long-winded, and unfocused than it should be.
On the other hand, in the rest of the book Anderson definitely succeeds in showing all sides of Che's personality, both good and bad. Like the best of biographers, Anderson doesn't judge his subject and lets the facts speak for themselves. And what we have is a highly contradictory character. Che was admirably committed to his beliefs, but this commitment was so strong that his beliefs became unyielding and dogmatic. He was an exceptional leader of men but a horrendous politician, so he earned fanatical devotion from his followers but alienated everyone else. He personified the fatal flaw of all Communists by professing a love for the vague mass called "The People," but when it came to individual persons he persecuted (and sometimes executed) anyone who didn't follow his beliefs to the letter. While he was certainly a key player in the Cuban revolution, and Castro couldn't have done the job without him, Che accomplished little after that as he tried to inspire revolutions around the world. He couldn't accept the fact that his pie-in-the-sky dream of uniting all the world's oppressed peoples couldn't possibly work in reality, both for logistical reasons and because of the differences in people's political beliefs. But Che certainly had plenty of charisma and devotion, and that is still a pretty good reason for him to be inspirational to this day. However, his legions of admirers may want to read this book and learn more about what he really did - and didn't - accomplish.

Balanced and thorough

This is a very even-handed and thorough look at Che Guevara's life. As an anti-communist Cuban-American, I approached this book with skepticism, but ultimately thought it to be sound. John Lee Anderson is obviously sympathetic to Che, but how can you expect a biographer not to be. Additionally, I suspect that such sympathy is what allowed him access to previously unreleased documents held by the Cuban Council of State, as well as Che's widow. Anderson doesn't squander the opportunity and produces a scrupulous, yet eminently readable account. If you are looking to learn more about the Che--the good and the bad--this is undoubtedly where start.

Excellente

If you are looking for an excellent book on Che Guevara, this one is it. It has it all, from his parents and his birth to his death in 1967 and his eventual return to Cuba 30 years later.

This book is very descriptive and extremely in-depth, so expect more than a simple narrative. It is a big book, it will take a little while to read, but it is time well spent.

I believe this book was as 'neutral' as it could possibly be, considering the highly contentious intellectual atmosphere that surrounds academic discussion of Cuba and the Revolution. It does not gloss over the fact that Che executed people, both during and after the guerilla war. Similarly, the book does not avoid the obvious humanistic and loving episodes in the life of Ernesto Guevara de la Serna. For his neutrality and artful handling of such a complex historical figure, who lived his life against a backdrop of events still highly controversial today, I commend Mr. Anderson.

Before reading this book, Che was an icon to me: a heroic revolutionary with dreams of intercontinental liberation and universal justice.

After reading this book, Che the icon disappeared. He became, to quote his reputed last words, simply "a man."

I'm not sure if I would have a better result with a paper manual but the pictures that are given in the Kindle version are small and usually don't give enough perspective for you to know where you are supposed to be looking. Also there are often not enough pictures in the sequence of steps for you to follow along.

Overall: its a decent resource but not the best manual I've ever used and definitely could use more detail.

When India became independent in 1947 after two centuries of colonial rule, it immediately adopted a firmly democratic political system, with multiple parties, freedom of speech, and extensive political rights. In An Uncertain Glory, two of India's leading economists argue that the country's main problems lie in the lack of attention paid to the essential needs of the people, especially of the poor, and often of women. In a democratic system, which India has great reason to value, addressing these failures requires not only significant policy rethinking by the government, but also a clearer public understanding of the abysmal extent of social and economic deprivations in the country. The deep inequalities in Indian society tend to constrict public discussion, confining it largely to the lives and concerns of the relatively affluent. Dr�ze and Sen present a powerful analysis of these deprivations and inequalities as well as the possibility of change through democratic practice.

Necessity of Social Intervention accompanying Economic Growth

"An uncertain Glory" is a seriously argued book advocating Social Intervention in the fields of health, education, nutrition, provision of public services like drinking water, sanitation etc. while pursuing policies of economic growth. The argument is supported by a wealth of data in a Statistical Appendix of about 40 pages.

Authors begin with a survey of India's many political and economic achievements and failures. They praise the success of formal democracy and high economic growth while lamenting the poor practice of democracy and slow progress in indicators of human well being which they rightly claim to be inter related.

The book studies India's comparative standing vis-�-vis other Asian, African and South American economies over time and establishes convincingly that despite high economic growth, India has fallen behind these countries by not paying sufficient attention to social intervention in the fields listed above.

The centrality of education and primacy of health care are further supported by success of some Indian states like Kerala, Tamilnadu and Himachal Pradesh which have achieved high level of indicators of human well being without being at the top of economic growth chart.

Authors commend the introduction and success of laws like Right to Information
and NAREGA which have brought about more transparency and accountability in political sphere and raised real wages in rural India respectively.

More importantly, India's multi dimensional inequality based on class, caste, gender and even knowledge of English are discussed and their inter relationship brought to fore.

Authors justifiably criticize the media for not paying enough attention to real issues facing the country and utilizing their resources for mainly airing the views of affluent classes. This causes severe deficiency in public reasoning and participatory development accentuating the existing inequalities.

The greatness of the work lies in its multi dimensional approach, forceful argument and well researched empirical support for the argument. It is more than successful in establishing importance of social intervention as well as a deliberative democracy for achieving greater equality in enjoyment of fruits of growth.

The Need for Impatience

India is acclaimed as the world's largest democracy and the second fastest growing economy, with a huge demographic dividend and the largest middle class. Personally, I too have been a beneficiary of this rapid economic transformation since 1991.

I have always felt proud of such economic success, blindly believing in `the trickle-down effect' and that the welfare measures of the government would take care of poverty alleviation.

This book, a real eye opener, gives a totally different picture, ugly, sad, but true and accurate, of the other side of India - the poor and underprivileged, who are hungry, malnourished, illiterate and sick.

It is shocking to see the huge disparity between the privileged and the rest. Indian media, in all TV channels recently ridiculed the Planning Commission's notion of poverty line (at Rs 32/- or 5 Cents in urban areas, and Rs 26/- or 4 Cents in rural areas) as the daily income. The entire noise and laughter was on how misplaced this calculation was, since Rs 32/- meant next to nothing for survival, leave alone `luxuries' like health care and education.

The authors very rightly point out in this book, that what the entire debate grossly missed was the fact that even at the abysmal threshold of Rs 32/26/- per day, about 350 million or a third of the entire nation would still be classified as poor in the world's largest democracy.

While India can claim economic laurels on Growth rate, it is now the second lowest (thankfully) just above Pakistan in Human Development Index, amongst 16 poorest countries outside Sub-Saharan Africa as pointed out in the book.

The country has failed to harness `constructive role of markets' and simultaneously, and quite miserably in implementing `constructive role of the state'. While the former did nothing to make growth inclusive, the latter is a story of gross ineptitude, corruption and lack of accountability of the public services.

The book discusses the plight of the underprivileged, the women, Dalits and other poorer segments that are largely untouched by economic progress achieved by the privileged classes.

A chapter each on Corruption, Health Care, Education, and Social Support makes this book an exhaustive study on the ground reality of poverty in the world's largest democracy. Lots need to be done to achieve social and economic democracy as well. Democracy is just a political means to achieve social and economic justice for all.

The book discusses direct social benefit schemes like Right to Education, MNREGA, ICDS, RBSY, PDS, Food Security etc., which are bold and brilliant steps, absolutely necessary to mitigate the suffering of the poor, and also to build human capital to accelerate growth.

In my own observation, for every scheme that is announced by the Government, the privileged, due to better education, income, connections, and bargaining power corner the benefits that are actually meant and targeted for the poor. As an example, even the highly educated professionals are quick to obtain `Aadhar Card', only to avail pittance (in comparison with their gross incomes) of a subsidy for cooking gas.

The proverbial `Ration card', (taken `just in case it is needed') and Voter ID (hardly exercised by the affluent) are other examples, of proliferation of cards that adds to the confusion.

In the absence of clear communication on the purpose of these cards and schemes, and the lack of authentic data and machinery to identify the real beneficiaries, benefits meant for the poor never reach them and are siphoned out in part. The poor suffer from `exclusion error'.

The privileged enjoy regressive subsidies, and actually encourage siphoning subsidies by corrupt officials due to `inclusion error'. (For example food grains `accounted as distributed' for those who never collect them, nor would ever use them due to `poor quality'.)

The privileged also hinder inclusive growth while enjoying several regressive subsidies, in the absence of "Self Selection" systems that discourages them. (Noon meal scheme for children in Government run Schools as an example). This is my personal inference from this book.

Corruption is the biggest menace facing India. It thrives due to 1. Complex Government processes, 2. Social tolerance of bribes, and 3. Difficulty in prosecuting corrupt government officials, argue the authors.

Every honourable citizen should muster the courage to say NO to corruption, direct or indirect, whatever the social pressures. Corruption in any form erodes the national fabric, and should be treated on par with `Waging War against Nation' as pointed out recently by some social activists.

The Right to Information Act (2005) is perhaps the greatest step in this direction, to bring transparency in governance. There is a need to extend it to Private Sector and political parties as well.

It should also be noted that States like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh have made rapid strides in Human Development Index along with rise in per capita income, while many other states have miserably failed. Informed will of the people, an efficient bureaucracy and strong political leadership, can make this huge difference.

India has always boasted of its `patience'. Aptly quoted in the final chapter of this book, "Patience is a minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue": Ambrose Bierce, in The Devil's Dictionary (1906).

India got political freedom from British, only because her patience ran out.

We can no longer be patient.

We need passion for growth, coupled firmly with compassion for the poor.

Supported by appropriate and accurate data, references and a passion for ending poverty, this book is perhaps the best, I have ever read on Indian Economics.

Well worth the read

Mildly repetitive and inevitably somewhat dry, nevertheless well worth the read if you want to understand why India is not the juggernaut that many, especially in the right wing press, have been warning us about. Oddly enough, this book is rather informative about our own country in the sense that we get so see what the US would look like if the Republican/Tea Party was able to fulfill its plan of unfettered industrial growth, education for the working people neglected and complete privatization of medical care. The US is not in any real danger of falling into deep, mass poverty but the description of policy decisions and their consequences by the authors cannot but remind readers of the politics of deeply red states like Alabama and Mississippi.

Doesn't cover Javascript but otherwise great and fun!

To be fair, nobody covers Javascript sites and not sure it's possible. Selenium is very slow. Still this covers every aspect of high performance Scrapy crawling and starts with examples of making mobile applications and running on the cloud that are very exciting. This book is great fun!

Very good book with nice examples

I use python more for simulations (SimPy) and scientific computing (Pandas). However, I needed to use Scrapy for a separate project. I chose that book and it really helped me. The text is well written with a clear structure and a nice flow. Also the examples are very helpful and well explained. Actually, the book gave me some ideas for further development of my personal project. I totally recommend the book for learning Scrapy and having a hands-on experience.

Must have book for every Web-scraping professional.

I've been using Scrapy extensively and helping others in web-scraping with Scrapy for several years in a row.
Project documentation covers the basics only and is missing a lot of real-world examples, recommended conventions and guidelines. This book provides a very detailed overview of the framework, showing it form multiple angles and on different levels (starts with a beginner level to several, pretty much advanced parts), includes multiple recipes, speaks about things beyond Scrapy and moving it into production, performance, distributed crawling and much more.

Really enjoyed reading it and learned a lot of new things.

A Whole New World!

If you're looking for a how-to book of tying up your partner, techniques for using tools, what parts of the body are safe to strike, etc., you'll have to look elsewhere in other books that cover these subjects. If, on the other hand, you want to know why on Earth would anybody want to do this in the first place, you've hit the jackpot in "Radical Ecstasy."

If you think BDSM is all about cruelty, Dossie and Janet will convince you otherwise. They are incredibly articulate about psychological processes that are nearly impossible to describe. Come along with players on their journeys to the darkest, scariest parts of their minds and watch them emerge cleansed, whole, free, and (most importantly of all) LOVED by their play partners. Their role-plays may well be more effective than hypnosis or years of therapy on a shrink's couch. The authors feel their words do not do the experiences justice, but truly they are too modest.

I had the good fortune to meet Dossie and Janet at a Polyamory convention, having already read their classic "The Ethical Slut" which is far-and-away the best and most practical book about the dynamics of Polyamory. They are cool ladies who would be mistaken for ordinary vanilla if you didn't know otherwise. "Radical Ecstasy" is every bit as revelatory as "The Ethical Slut," opening up a whole new world for me.

At one point in reading it, I collapsed in cathartic laughter that made tears stream down my face, when I suddenly realized that I had always been fascinated with bondage games, even as early as age 8. My obsession with "Perils of Pauline" scenes became a source of enormous ridicule from my schoolmates, so embarrasing I never dared breathe a word of it to anyone for more than 30 years. At long last, Dossie and Janet proved that there was nothing wrong with me after all! I was merely trying to act out a logical resolution to the school-bully problem. My first-ever night at a BDSM club saw me tied to a St. Andrew's Cross while wearing the most demure, innocent, Victorian-vintage lace dress imaginable. Eventually, I might finally get to act out a resistance/takedown/rescue scene where I get chased all over the dungeon . . .

Take a Journey Inside Your Mind

This book takes a look at "altered states," BDSM and sacred sex practices and the route that the authors take to get to these "altered states." It is in some ways a journey the two authors made while writing this book to get to the core answer of "what truly is radical ecstasy." And yet the impression I get from reading this book is that what it truly is differs for everyone. Having been exploring alternate forms of spirituality over the past two or three years, quite a bit of what the authors speak of hit home for me. The book also has a number of vignettes of scenes the authors did with one another, their reactions and feelings during and after the scenes, as well as their use of breathing and visualization to reach "spiritual highs."

At times you may find the authors delving into areas that seem a bit hard to follow, but there will also be times reading about areas where you nod your head in acknowledgment. This is not a book for the "novice player," but rather for those who've been exploring consensual power exchange play for at least a little while and are looking for ideas or thoughts about how to make their scenes more spiritual.

Give me some of this religion already

These two ladies are for me the Lewis and Clark of the naked soul. In biker leathers flogger in hand they seem to go after that spiritual world that shows up sometimes when hot sex meets hot love. As a reader, this is quite a confession for me, a pretty much vanilla non-practicing BDSMer with a seminary studies background in mystical theology. I'm still somewhat surprised that this theme keeps showing up in what I read of late; this Divine Eros, even the Eros Maniakos spoken of by holy men of the monastic desert in the Christian East, men and women going all out for God. I see the same thread in Easton and Hardy except they are not afraid to have some naughty fun along the way. My spiritual side keeps coming back to their head scratching edgy sex, feeling strongly that there's a connection there that is almost religious and most certainly in touch with the Divine.

Such is the power of orgasmic bliss these two women explore in Radical Ecstasy. Theirs is a serious and athletic climb mixed in with heart-felt compassion and friendship and an intense desire for more that goes for both pleasure and healing at the same time. If you're like me, knowing for certain somebody dropped you off at this party broken and you'd like to leave whole, maybe this book is for you.

Both words in the title hooked me. Ecstasy? Radical? Give me both. And what of that Kundalini snake running up and down the spine of that naked lady on the cover? What's not to like here for the spiritual traveler? For the many neophyte kinkster voyeurs just tuning in around us, those who have ventured as far perhaps as having spanked a lover but once or twice as an experiment, this book will shock and awe perhaps. Yet so many are exploring now various doors into the realm dark eros, braving entrance into the leather world. Maybe this spiritual book is for those with a churchy past? And why not? Like many of us, my experience with dark side sex and kink has been the last ten awful years of a formerly good marriage. And many do come to the party as watchers rather than doers, the intrigue for many may well be the spiritual part as much as the edgy sex. And what could be more fun than coming to the game looking for steamy sex and finding God, too?

I've long identifying as a sensual person seeking a soul connection. Shadow work has kept my interest through the years as a bookophile starting back when I encountered Plato in his Republic in college. Indeed, shadow, shadow on the wall, which is the real and which is the illusion? Hardy and Easton explore this question cover to cover.

If you liked the extreme honesty and passion of Ethical Slut, you'll see Radical Ecstasy is equally honest. Both of them reference an erotic pursuit that is almost monastic in its severity. I've toured and retreated at many a monastery from California to the Middle East and find it not all that much of a stretch to see an Easton/Hardy connection with the intensity of fasting and asceticism found there. And also, oddly, in BDSM in general, not unlike for me are the severe activities of say, kneeling on a rock for a thousand days as saints have done. And why do spiritual folk do such severe things with their bodies, be they these authors or saints? Because they want at any price to be close, near to their Beloved, be he or she as lover human or Divine. Powerful for me was the devotion, friendship and spiritual pursuit found here in the deep relationship between these two women: it's the main pith of their tale.

If tears and sweat and howls and pain and naked skin mixed in with scare-the-crap-out-of-you fear of embracing the Divine makes you queasy, stay far from this book. These are two dangerous ladies. But let's say you've a wound or two that is painful and runs soul deep and you want real bad to reach that wound and find healing. And let's say you've got an open mind to what tools are permissible to add to your toolbox. Then read this book. But you've got to want to go deep. And you've got to be willing to not even care if you look good going there. Risk this book. It will give you some new religion to mix in with your old perhaps. I'd also read their excellent When Somebody You Love Is Kinky. If you've a serious spiritual side, you might just find that the particular someone in your quest is yourself.
