Interesting novel, but awful e-book

This is the first e-book I've actually bought for my Kindle, having stuck to Project Gutenberg and Overdrive up until now, and it's pretty painful to have by far the worst experience with "e-reading" just when I gave in and shelled out some dough. As the other reviewer said, tons of typos. I was already borderline-defeated by the decision not to translate the kinship terms (maybe this is my fault, but I didn't find the glossary until I got to the end of the book, as I assumed the very abbreviated kinship term list at the front of the book was the whole thing), so it doesn't help when you start reading things like "Hrm said" and you're not even entirely certain that it IS a typo at first. Yikes. I sorta feel like I deserve a partial refund for this thing; considering that by going the DRM-ified digital route, I'm giving up any chance of getting resale value from this thing, this shoddy attempt to digitize this novel is really inexcusable.

As for the novel itself, I have to say I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. It's probably worth reading, but definitely not in this format. And I think the translation could be better, but I have no way of knowing that to be certain, I suppose! Let's say the book itself is three stars, and the e-book aspect of it is 1 star.

I liked this book, and I would recommend it to somebody who is looking to read a by an Indian author. There were quite a few typos in the book, which makes it a little tough to follow at times.

Five stars with a caveat

I almost rated this book four stars. This book is a bit lazy, and many topics have been covered in a much better way in Dominic O'Brien's "Brillant Memory". But there are three things in this book that are not in O'Brien's book.
One: The system for remembering names and faces is superior.
Two: The system for the alphabet is superior.
Three: The number system is different and I think a little easier/quicker to learn. The caveat on that is that I think the Person/Action/Object system lasts longer and s better for long term memory. I still recommend checking out Ron's way.

I go to college so anything that will help me cut down the amount of hours I need to maintain a 4.0 is a blessing. This book did that and for that alone it is worth reading.

I can't recommend this book as the first one though. In order I recommend:
--Best Intro: Moon Walking With Einstein... Seriously, read this book before you do anything else.
--Then: Brilliant Memory
--Then: How to improve your memory in just 30 days

I'm also a big fan of Cal Newport, but that's another story. Buy this book, read it, absorb it, and have a good day =)

I always thought I had a poor memory - turns out I don't!

Let's get the errors out of the way - yes they exist, numerous typos. If you choose to focus on that and miss the point of the book then you just wasted your own money because the information is terrific. (Maybe when they fix the typos the price will shoot up to $22.99, I'm happy with the $2.99!). Good, now we can focus on the book!

I am a 41-year-old mother of three and am hoping to return to school this fall. I was looking for a book on improving study skills to retain information because I believed my memory to be in sad shape. In two days I have learned to count in Japanese, I've learned the presidents in order backwards and fowards, a portion of the Bill of Rights and a foundation for learning and retaining that will be invaluable. They really should teach this in school from an early age. I've been reading it with my daughter and am downloading a copy for my son, who is also heading off to college.

I bought three books on memory (Your Memory - Kenneth Higbee, Remember, Remember - Ed Cooke and this one). The Higbee book covers a lot of background on memory and how the brain functions and may eventually teach me how to improve my own memory, but it's been a slow read. I have taken a small stab at the Ed Cooke book, but again it has been slow to warm up. This book dives right in with exercises and quick understanding to produce immediate results. I appreciated how the author used certain lists that appeared to not make sense, only to have them turn into valuable lessons further along in the book.

Well worth the money!

Very practical

Although not the best written memory book, and not error-free, this is a very practical memory book that focuses on a powerful memory technique: Loci. I have tried it, and although I think it cannot be a applied to every part of your life (as the author suggests), it really enables you to store long lists of information. In the end, the author is a memory champion, so he knows what he is talking about.

But the essence of his technique can really be summarized in the following phrase: "Your memory works with images. So any information you need to memorize must be first converted into an image". Of course there are many considerations you need to know, so for 3 and something bucks, it is worth it.

An author of strong, but well-justified, opinions, and great knowledge of his subject

Right smack in the introduction Mr. Windsor justifies every further second of time you will spend reading and learning from the rest of this book. He discusses the three types of swordsman, the competitior, the technician, and the spiritualist. He's taught long enough to know how these types of students progress. That knowledge alone is worth the price of admission.

Mr. Windsor has published a second edition of this book as well. Choose either one. You're in good hands.

Excellent Companion Material for New or Experienced Longsword Practitioners

This book is a great reference that I find best paired with Guy Windsor's "Mastering the Arts of Arms Volume 2 - The Medieval Longsword". Where the aforementioned book goes into technical detail and presents technique and guides for learning the technical aspects of longsword, this book goes into the philosophy of training and how to train with different types of fencers. It also has some technical detail and more drills/technique, however this book really nicely breaks down some of the more metaphysical or mental aspects of learning and fighting with a Longsword. Highly recommend this book, especially paired with Guy Windsor's Longsword book. As with his book on longsword, I recommend this book to anyone who is just starting or anyone that has been practicing for a while or even instructing. Whether learning on your own or already a member of a club or learning community, this book contains invaluable information that goes a long way to improving your understanding and mastery of the longsword material.

Although I've been in sales for over forty years, it's always good to be reminded of the basics. This book is an easy, short read with information that sticks! I highly recommend it!

My old copy sucked…

Wow, real opener. Dan made me realize what I was doing wrong and more importantly how to fix it. Last year I kind of felt proud of myself as I hired a “copywriter” for one of my landing pages and I was convinced she was doing a good job (after all she had a master and what not..) Well, she was a good writer and editor but not a good copywriter. So to sum up- my old copy sucked. I just followed a few strategies I picked up from this book and re-wrote a few things myself and wow. Better conversions. I am really excited for what is yet to come as I am not 100% finished with my copy. Plus…even if I hire a freelance copywriter, thanks to Dan’s t teachings I will know whether they do a good job or not. Some food for thought. Added to my “build your marketing muscles” kindle collection.

Great Guide

This is a great manual for marketing, on or offline. Every chapter helps you understand a buyers cognitive biases so you can overcome them. This is of course if you already have a quality product. If you don't have that, sure you'll sell some of them but then crash and burn.

About the Author
KISSHOMARU UESHIBA became the second Aikido Doshu (leader) after the Founder and his father, Morihei Ueshiba. He was the author of the popular The Spirit of Aikido and co-author of Best Akido.


MORITERU UESHIBA, the third and present Aikido Doshu, wrote the preface to this book. He is the son of Kisshomaru Ueshiba, and the author of Progressive Aikido, Best Aikido, and The Aikido Master Course.

A definitive biography

An inspirational book that has taken too long to be translated from Japanese.
Kisshomaru Ueshiba died in 1999 and the Japanese original was published in 1978.
It is a beautifully produced book on quality paper that does justice to the many photographs, quite a few of which are original to this publication. Others we have seen before, but never so well presented.
Kisshomaru, the 2nd Doshu and only surviving son of Morihei Ueshiba, O Sensei, the Founder of Aikido, relates here the life of his father, clearly delineating the influences and discoveries that led to the development of Aikido.
Unlike other biographies of the Founder of Aikido, this one is told from a unique perspective that embodies familial love and respect that no other third hand version of O Sensei's life can capture. Kisshomaru lived Aikido from his earliest moments, and often acted as his father's training partner. His constant work in promoting Aikido in Japan and around the world is hinted at but not gone into in much detail as this book is about his father. And on the passing of his father he naturally became the next leader. This gives the book a viewpoint that is personal and private and reveals much about O Sensei that has not previously been known. Though some parts are overlong in general it covers all anyone would want to know about Moriehei Ueshiba, the person, not the legend others have created around him.
What most impressed me was when Kisshomaru related that almost on his deathbed his father told him "You did well." These were the only words of praise he ever said to his son. And just before he slipped into a coma he told his disciples to keep everyone together and support Kisshomaru. How must Kisshomaru have felt at that moment?
"Carry on, won't you," were his very last words to his son. He died early the next morning.
This is the definitive biography translated by Kai Izawa and Mary Fuller, and I would recommend it highly to any and every serious Aikidoka. They should read this book.

Loved reading it, hated finishing it.

This was a fascinating book about a fascinating man, told by his own son no less. Although I've not been fortunate enough to learn Aikido myself the book still drew me in and I found myself wanting to learn more and more about him. Early on Kisshomomaru calls his father divine, respectfully always referring to him as "O Sensei" and by the books end it's hard to think of him as otherwise. That the book does this simply by telling his story and not getting preachy is a testament to him.

Admittedly the book is not perfect. There are times when Kissho seems to go on tangents about things not related to the man, and other times where he's quoting at length from so many other sources that you start to wonder if this is a biography, or a compilation of things said of Morihei. Others might also have issues with Kissho inserting himself into the story to speak personally of his own experiences with his father but I personally found those scenes touching and did enjoy them. I must also mention that if someone picks up this book hoping to learn any actual techniques they'll be disappointed. I didn't, so I wasn't, but I can see why others might, This is a straight up biography, not a guide book or manual on Aikido.

I consider those complaints but mere nit picks, however, and still thoroughly enjoyed the book. This is one of those rare books that I knew, upon finishing it, I would inevitably read again. It's not too long, told very naturally, and is just such a fascinating read. I cannot recommend it highly enough and urge anyone with any interest in martial arts or just history or both to read it.

I learned a lot reading this book about O'Sensei and the art of Aikido. This truly is a wonderful book and I plan to read it again in the near future. If I had one complaint it would be that the story of O'Sensei life with the study of Omoto slightly dragged on because of the great detail it provided. It was nice that this type of detail was captured but if you have not interest in it, it might be perceived as very boring. If I had a complaint about the book it would be about this only as the other areas of the book were truly enlightening and well read. It was also nice to be able to see names of current Aikido masters captured within the book as well.

Robert K. Wilcox is the award-winning journalist, screenwriter, and author living in Los Angeles, California. Target JFK will cause objective students and researchers of this horrific crime to revaluate their perspective and rethink some preconceived notions. As was the case with his compelling Target Patton, Bob Wilcox has opened up an avenue of approach in pursuit of the truth that is at once highly intriguing and also hard to discount out of hand. Whether one considers the book's protagonist ("The Spy") a hero or a villain, it is clear that his service as a clandestine operator over a period of decades put him at the forefront of many critical events here and abroad. Target JFK makes no definitive claims it can not prove. Instead it does something more valuable to ensuring American history is truthfully understood: it forces the reader to think critically and dispassionately about the evidence presented and, moreover, to consider what follow on questions now must be answered. As someone who channels myself and works with the Magdalene, Angelic and Diamond light codes of Source-Love creator consciousness myself, I can say without a doubt that this is powerfully activating and truly inspired material. As Kaia Ra's journey reveals so courageously, there is nothing we can't overcome to become the brilliant radiance of light that we are in human form. There isn't an empty sentence in this entire book. I'm an long time, avid reader or spiritual texts and the self-help genre. I'm also a former high school English teacher. This book reminds me of Gary Zukav's Seat of Soul, but now 30 years grown, developed, matured... I often deeply appreciate the spiritual insights that various books can offer, but it's not too often that I finish a book feeling that the approach and style of the writing can provide a message for a wide variety of people.
This book is challenging and inspiring. It reads like love letters from the universe. Highly recommend.

beautiful illuminating soul

Reading The Sophia Code has had such a profound effect on me, that the magic and synchronicites that have been happening in my life since the book arrived have accelerated at such a speed, that I can't seem to find the time to even finish reading it. I have been a seeker of mystical knowledge, and the occult for over 20 years now, and this text is truly a living transmission of the creation story, told from the prespective of the divine feminine. It's a road map, to discovering how to awaken to your gifts within, and what's happening in my life right now, is truly a testament to this.
