About the Author
Ralf Kreher works as Senior Software Architect for Tektronix Communications (Test and Optimization) business with focus on UMTS and LTE Performance Measurement and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) implementation. Before joining the engineering department he lead the Tektronix Mobile Protocol Test Customer Training Department for almost four years being responsible for a world-class seminar portfolio for mobile technologies and measurement products. Kreher holds a Communication Engineering Degree of the University of Applied Science, Deutsche Telekom Leipzig. He is internationally recognized author of the books UMTS Signaling and UMTS Performance Measurement.

Karsten Gaenger received a Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the Berlin University of Technology. He was with the Fraunhofer HHI research institute from 2004 to 2006. During this time he published several IEEE papers on his development of a reliable real-time streaming system and protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc networks. His research interests are mobile communications, IPTV, and robust real-time video streaming. Currently he is with Tektronix, Inc. and takes part in the mobile test and optimization division for 3G and LTE networks. He is a Solution Architect with RAN focus for testing and monitoring real-time multi-media streaming in next generation mobile networks. His current projects include the development of a passive LTE air interface probe.

Very useful and well-explained.

This book sheds a lot of light on LTE air interface processes, the parameters and performance indications involved, and the practical considerations which affect RAN performance. It's hard to get open and common-sense explanations from the network manufacturers' documentation, since their focus is mainly on their products and implementation. This book provides a good foundation, practical interpretation of performance data, and the rationale for improvement. Thanks - we needed this!

A pretty good read with likes of source material and good explanations on the signaling. If you are a Network Engineer this book should fit nicely on your shelf and will help with troubleshooting.

The best dessert book i have !

I have received this book as a gift, being familiar wit Carine Goren's website i decided to give the recipes in this book a try. One after another the recipes turned out better than i expected. Really, the only criticism i have is about the 'cheesecake' part of the book. Being an Israeli living in the States, i was excited to try the various cheesecake recipes from the book to have a nostalgic taste of the amazing cheesecakes from back home. To say the least, the cheesecake recipes did not meet my expectations. Since this book is 'translated' specificaly for the U.S. crowd, the recipes indicate the use of creamcheese; the american creamcheese which is completely different from the Israeli made 5% and 9% so called 'white cheese'. However, these recipes made with american creamecheese are still better than the american made cheesecakes by far. My dissapointment with the cheesecakes did not relent me from trying most of the recipes in this book and im glad to say this is my most favorite book in the kitchen. I hope you can enjoy it as much as i did.

This book is perfect if you like simple baking recipes. It's all basic ingredients and not expensive.
I have tried so many recipes from this book and I'm not disappointed :). I love the Babka cake, soo perfect! Better than Panera Bread's babka cake! . The sponge orange cake is so fluffy, it's like Grandma's cake :)

About the Author
As a so-called "Army brat," LIANE MERCIEL grew up in Germany, South Korea, and several different parts of the United States. She is an alumnus of Yale University and the College of William & Mary Law School. She now lives in Philadelphia, where she practices law. Liane is the author of two original fantasy novels, "The River King's Road" and its sequel, "Heaven's Needle", and has written both novels and short works for the Pathfinder rpg.

Excellant book.....hellraiser meets pathfinder combination was really interesting.....very dark and brooding fist half of book ...... Road to redemption second half all the while keeping it dark and flavorful with a side of shadow.

Not as fun as usual in the genre - but very good

OK, so this is a very interesting specimen. A book about Nidal, the land of sado-masochist priests of shadow? crazy, right?

well, not if Mrs. Mericel has a say on it!

THERE ARE NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW

anyway, "Nightglass" is less a novel than two, loosley related short stories about the same character - two completely separate plots, each of them starting and concluding within 10-14 episodes if I remember correctly. As such, the story is much less the focus in this book. the real focus is the environment, the setting, and the main character. Let's examine them!

ENVIRONMENT:
we get to see some cool locals that actual inspired me to design some Pathfinder RPG stuff on my own - which is a great compliment for a Golarion novel. We see how a city or village in Nidal would look and feel like, and we also get to explore a neat "frontier" type location with lots of fun, unusual monsters roaming around it. The book is not very descriptive and leaves a lot the imagination, coloring each new location in broad strokes. I rather like that in the context of the book and that had my imagination working overtime. Overall great.

SETTING:
This book couldn't happen anywhere but Golarion, and that makes it very cool. More than that - it is set in two of the trickiest locations to write abot. I am talking Nidal and Cheliax, two "evil" nations. A lesser author might have just shrugged it off by making the people living in the nation evil, or having them be "good" but suppressed by the government or something. This is not the case here, as we get what appears to be a faithful representation of people suppressing themselves. The result is somewhat similar to what I would imagine living in a totalitarian regime would feel like. You can see the characters sucking themselves in to the cycle of suffering their nations create, and sympathize with them while they are doing that.

MAIN CHARACTER:
The main character sets the tone of the book, and this is where I feel things fall short a little bit. Isiem, the one and only POV in the story, is presented to us as a child - 11 years old. However, even in that age, he continuously contemplates complicated questions of morality, mortality, right and wrong, loyalty, pain, friendship, love, freedom, and meaning. If that sounds like a lot, know that it is. Non of the "children" in the book are convincing - they talk to each other in long, overbearing speeches and discuss complex ideas with such absurd maturity that any attempt to think of them as not-even-teenagers-yet is impossible. I have a little brother who is at that age, and I interact with him and his friends by running them through a Pathfinder adventure. They are a bunch of intelligent kids, but none of them are even close to behaving like those in this book. Hack, most of my friends are dumber than that.

Later on, as he ages, Isien becomes a really brooding, thoughtful kind of guy. He refrains from combat even when the situation screams for him to use his force to the greatest effect possible, and he spends much of his time thinking sad things and trying to find his true self. While that makes him intresting to read about, it's not really what I am looking for in Pathfinder fiction, and so based on this I knocked a star off from my review. That simply reflects my personal preferences in this kind of book. If you want a read that might make you think, then consider this a 5 stars review.

well written with a ton of detail that reads smoothly and informs the reader. This is a solid novel regardless of the genre or the fact that it is a licensed setting. If you enjoy fantasy tails with an interesting main character this book should be right up your alley.

which is a waste of time for a full-time student

Book matches professor's book exactly, which is the most important aspect. 2nd important would be: there needs to be more copy and pasting privileges per title. I got through half of the semester and now have to manually type questions, which is a waste of time for a full-time student.
