Sound hermeneutic, sound application

Approaching and interpreting the book of Song of Songs is for brave preachers, who want to seek a biblical ground for Christian lovers. A well-balanced love comprises romanticism, erotism and Christian piety. Daniel Akin searches for these three in his book.

Another point is interpreting the book rightly, using hermeneutics tools at our hand in order not to destroy the message of the book. Some schools of interpretation see an allegory and typology along the book; other schools point the erotic content of the book; and others see the romantic love flowing from the book itself. Which is Daniel Akin’s approach?

Well, it is not easy to say in one word and in one post in a brief review. He is a well-documented interpreter, following a Christ-centered interpretation and guiding us together with him in the search of the text meaning. But to what extent can be the Christ-centered interpretation accurate with some Bible passages? At a first sight one may suppose he will allegorize the text, but when you study the book you realize the main point is searching the natural interpretation of hebrew poetry and then search in every unit of thought a Christ-centered application. And this approach is respectful and faithful to the Bible text. So, he doesn’t follow the allegoric-typological school. As David Peterson states regarding the Christian application:

“First we must ask how the text applies to the person and work of Christ. Then we can begin to see how it applies to Christians through Christ or because of Christ” (Christ and His People in the Book of Isaiah, 16)

He follows a six-fold structure:

How does this text exalt Christ?
Reflect and discuss
This pattern makes easy to study the book, helping the student to know what is he studying in every moment. So it is useful for seminary students or home students.

As regard the style, it is an easy-to-read book, with abundant illustrations, anecdotes and quotes which give freshness to the verse-by verse commentary.

In brief, what is really inspirational in this book is a well-balanced exposition which comprises sound hermeneutics and guides to a sound application. The fluency and accuracy of his thoughts makes this book a must-have in every Bible student’s desk.

Mr Akin does a great job here. Each section goes into exploring the text: context, setting, cultural references. Then he gives a lot of practical suggestions for applying what were reading. He ends each chapter with how the song really reflects Christ and our relationship with him as our bridegroom. An excellent guide.

I received this book and it looked brand new. ...

I received this book and it looked brand new. However, when I began reading it there were major problems. My copy starts on page 33, in the middle of chapter 2. I do not have the forward, table of contents, or any of chapter 1. The book starts at page 33 and then after page 80, returns to page 33 and continues on until the index. I wish I had read the book before the return period had expired. Now I have to buy a completely new copy and will not be reimbursed for this faulty package.

I recommend this if you're a content area teacher unsure of how to incorporate literacy into your class. Lent gives discipline specific examples and "How tos" through out the text. Excellent resource for the college course I teach on literacy to students with a secondary education minor. Thrilled to use it in class!

Educational and entertaining

As a lawyer who has practiced for 25 years, I find that it's sometimes difficult to explain to kids (especially my own) what I actually do for a living. Enter Spencer Aronfeld, with Sara Rose, Kid Lawyer. Finally, a book that explains the practice of law in a kid-friendly and entertaining way.

Because I'm the author of The Writer's Guide to the Courtroom: Let's Quill All the Lawyers (Get It Write), I also blog and teach about using the law in writing. I talk about how writers get the law right and wrong in their books and screenplays. This book is definitely safe for lawyers to read to their kids. From the amount of time it takes to become a lawyer to the types of legal practice, Sara Rose gets the details of law practice right. And unlike certain kid lawyers in books who shall not be named, Sara Rose handles a "case" without crossing over into the dread area of unauthorized practice of law.

This is a great book for lawyer parents to explain what they do, and for kids who are interested in learning more about being a lawyer.

Great book for great kids!

This book has beautiful illustrations and its put together very well. Im not a pro on children's books but I would say the age for this book is probably more like 7-12 years old. The text is lengthy so its not really for reading to your kid. That being said, its a great book and the money goes to a great cause. The author is doing wonderful things and this book is a great asset to his non-profit organization. The story is excellent and really shows how children can make a difference in this world if they stand up for what they believe in. Highly recommend!

Adorable and well-done

When author Spencer M Aronfeld asked whether I'd be interested in reviewing a children's book about lawyers, I couldn't resist. I had never seen one before and was curious to see how he could pull this off.

Well Aronfeld *does* pull it off. Quite well, in fact.

Sara Rose, Kid Lawyer tells the story of Sara Rose, a little girl who likes to argue. Because of that, people tell her she should be a lawyer when she grows up -- many current lawyers and law students may relate.

But after meeting a real live attorney at her lemonade stand, Sara quickly learns there's a lot more to being a lawyer than arguing, and that even arguing has a purpose. Soon thereafter, Sara sees an injustice at her school and works hard to influence a fair outcome, even learning about the appellate process along the way.

This is a really cute, well-done book that covers an impressive amount of ground in its thirty or so pages. I love that important concepts surrounding the legal profession are broken down into easy-to-understand terms and examples -- and then demonstrated for the reader.

Sara Rose, Kid Lawyer should be in every elementary school library and would make a great gift for that special, perhaps argumentative kid in your life. I'm giving it five stars.

Overall Good Review of the Industry

With respect and agreement with other reviewers comments on rotorcraft, the bulk of this work is focused on commercial and military aircraft development. Sections describing the trials and tribulations of firms such as Convair and deHavilland who sought to compete with Boeing, Douglas, and Lockheed are clearly well researched and offer useful insights. There is a lot of information in this work and it is clearly focused on these areas. If one is interested in why Convair failed with with 880 and 990 aircraft than they will find an explanation here. This is a good read for anyone seeking an detailed understanding of the evolution of American Aviation corporations in these areas.
