An international consultant, ReLeah Cossett Lent was a secondary teacher before becoming a founding member of a statewide literacy project at the University of Central Florida. The author of eight books--including Overcoming Textbook Fatigue--and chair of NCTE’s Standing Committee Against Censorship, she is the recipient of ALA’s Intellectual Freedom Award, NCTE’s Intellectual Freedom Award, the PEN/Newman’s Own First Amendment Award, and most recently, the Florida Council of Teachers of English President’s Award.

I received this book and it looked brand new. ...

I received this book and it looked brand new. However, when I began reading it there were major problems. My copy starts on page 33, in the middle of chapter 2. I do not have the forward, table of contents, or any of chapter 1. The book starts at page 33 and then after page 80, returns to page 33 and continues on until the index. I wish I had read the book before the return period had expired. Now I have to buy a completely new copy and will not be reimbursed for this faulty package.

Must read for all content teachers

I recommend this if you're a content area teacher unsure of how to incorporate literacy into your class. Lent gives discipline specific examples and "How tos" through out the text. Excellent resource for the college course I teach on literacy to students with a secondary education minor. Thrilled to use it in class!

One of the best text books that I have seen it quite some time. Well written, great examples, and definitions are right in the text to avoid going back and forth to the glossary. Great tool for Middle School teachers or those planning to be.
