Alan Sommers enjoyed getting to work early, and having his boss's dark roast coffee ready and waiting for him. Kincaid Mallow hasn't dated since the death of his partner from cancer, though that doesn't stop Alan from dreaming. When Kincaid goes on a business trip he asks Alan - as a friend, not an employer - to stay at his house and feed his pets. In small ways this helps break the boss/assistant relationship they've built and opens to door for a far more intimate one to bloom.
This is a fun and steamy romance, a cool twist on the usual boss and assistant style. Both Alan and Kincaid are well drawn and interesting characters that are sure to appeal to a wide audience. I didn't find either to be campy or overblown, but more like real men who simply happen to be gay. I really enjoyed how the author built up the romance and led the reader gradually into the sex. This wasn't a token effort at explaining the depth of feelings between the men, or a plot simply patch-worked around a bunch of sexy shenanigans, but the relationship and bond between Alan and Kincaid was real and solid. There is plenty of buildup, their circumstances and feelings fully fleshed out.
The sex leaves little to the imagination, too. Hot and smoldering, it's a good idea to keep a cool drink handy. When both men finally give in to their desires neither holds anything back, smashing the barriers that have been keeping them apart. The culmination of their pent up desires is a delectable scene that I greatly enjoyed. There's a mild bit of spanking (a few slaps - nothing too over the top) and a lot of hot action which ended the story on a definite high note. This is a really good story and thoroughly enjoyable.

Sometimes I wish I had a sexy boss...

Good read, very short. There is a lot of leading up to the finale where man and man get together. It is a read worth perusing when you find yourself some free time. My biggest complaint was the lead up, I mean, it spent the whole story with the main characters apart until the end when they fall into bed together. Now there is some extensive history between the characters that is shared from inner monologue so its not like he gets hired and nailed the same day or anything. So, if you've got some spare time and would like to find out how much he loves his boss, then dive right in!

Disappointed

I am a big fan of Shawn Lane, but this very short story didn't appeal in characters or storyline. I've read worse, but not by Lane!
